The Laboratory was founded in 2003 and is led by Prof. Oliver Brand. The laboratory is part of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The research activities of the Silicon-Based Microsystem Laboratory are in the area of microsensors and microsensor arrays for physical, chemical and biological measurands, CMOS-based microsystems, and microsystem packaging.

The lab's teaching activities include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the area of semiconductor devices and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS).
